A man who is allegedly related to the contamination of the scene of the murder of former Jalisco Governor Aristóteles Sandoval, which occurred on December 18, was arrested by state authorities.

The subject, identified only as Juan Orlando "N", was taken into custody this Friday in Puerto Vallarta and was accused of the crime of cover-up, the Jalisco Prosecutor's Office reported this Saturday in a statement.

The institution did not detail how the defendant in particular allegedly contaminated the scene, although it said this is the fourth person it has arrested "for altering the scene of the events."

"Juan Orlando 'N' was at the disposal of the judge who required it and in the initial hearing the Public Ministry charged him, however, it will be in the next few hours when his legal situation is resolved," explained the Prosecutor's Office in the statement.

Former Governor Sandoval died after he was shot in the back at dawn on December 18 in the bathroom of a restaurant in Puerto Vallarta.

After the attack, the Attorney General of Jalisco, Gerardo Octavio Solís Gómez, reported at a press conference that the evidence of the attack had been removed from the scene.

"When the police personnel arrived, when the first respondent, the Investigative Police and the rest of the authorities, arrived, it is important to mention that restaurant personnel had already raised all the signs inside, they had practically cleaned the scene, the crime scene" , said.

“This is going to make the investigations a bit difficult, since the whole scene has been literally moved.

This, of course, is undue, it is a circumstance that under no circumstances should happen, "added Solís Gómez.

In the statement published this Saturday, the Institution reported that workers from the restaurant where the murder occurred had removed a carpet on the day of the crime.

It added that, as a result of the investigations, the Prosecutor's Office found remains of the carpet in a property and that it managed to secure the truck in which the carpet was allegedly transported.

He added that they would carry out expert reports on these remains.

This week, Solís Gómez also reported that the Jalisco authorities had already arrested a person in flagrante delicto for the crime, four other people had been linked to the process and three more arrest warrants were still pending execution.

Until this Saturday, the authorities had not reported on the possible motives behind the attack on the former governor.
