The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the inclusion of the outgoing US President Donald Trump and 9 current and former US officials on the list of persons subject to its sanctions for their role in and involvement in terrorist and anti-human rights activities.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said in a statement tonight that senior US officials, including Trump, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, former Defense Secretary Mark Esper, Acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller, CIA Director Gina Haspel and former National Security Adviser John Bolton are on Iran's sanctions list because of Iran's sanctions. Their commission of terrorist crimes, and the spread and support of terrorism, which poses a serious threat to regional and international peace and security.
Khatibzadeh stressed that Iran states that, according to the principles of international law, imposing unilateral sanctions is a flagrant violation of the basic principles of international law stipulated in the United Nations Charter and contradicts international law, including international human rights law, and prevents the application of human rights. That is why Tehran has the right to take the necessary measures to confront the US international violations in all fields.
