Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen: Corona vaccinations have been well tolerated so far

The willingness to vaccinate is currently still limited.

But many have already been vaccinated against Covid-19.

Why they decided to take this step and how they feel after the first injection, tell four vaccination supporters from the region.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen - From the point of view of Dr.

Doris Gerbig there is only one way out of the "mess": As many people as possible have to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.

"This is the only way we have a chance to get out of lockdown and lead a normal life again." now wants to convince many more people of the need for a vaccination.

Peter Frech no longer needs to be convinced.

The owner of a security service and his employees accompany the mobile vaccination teams to the retirement homes.

When there was left over serum last week, he got an offer to get himself vaccinated - and didn't hesitate.

“I'm totally relaxed with something like that,” says Peter Frech, who also runs the “Jailhouse” in Bad Tölz.

He recommends those who oppose the vaccination read the leaflet that comes with aspirin - the list of possible side effects of the pain reliever is, in his opinion, much more frightening than that of the Covid 19 vaccination.

He himself took the injection very well - and is glad to have received it.

A spade in the direction of normality

Others have significantly more concerns.

Dr.

Doris Gerbig from the Bad Heilbrunn Specialist Clinic can understand that to a limited extent.

But anyone who studies the scientific literature will quickly realize: "The side effects are negligible." In the USA, for example, two million people were vaccinated within a week.

Only 21 of them would have shown an allergic reaction.

This is proven by figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an agency of the US Department of Health.

"Serious allergy sufferers are therefore excluded from the vaccination, as are people who have previously shown a severe vaccination reaction," says Dr.

She herself showed no reaction to the injection.

“I can only feel a slight pressure on the vaccination site.” The flu vaccination bothered her a lot more.

The other employees of the specialist clinic also showed no side effects.

“A few felt very tired, otherwise there were no problems.” The doctor is not afraid of long-term consequences: the so-called messenger RNA, which is inoculated, is broken down by the body within a few days.

The immune response, however, remains as an antibody and is stored in the memory of the body's cells.

"This is only positive for people, it doesn't make you sick," emphasizes Dr.

Tanned.

"No significant side effects"

The staff at the specialist clinic is high on the priority list when it comes to distributing the vaccine because they treat high-risk patients like transplant recipients.

For Doris Gerbig and her colleagues, the vaccination at this early stage is a privilege: "We are all filled with deep gratitude and great humility," says the doctor.

Gertraud Simon is also grateful for the vaccination.

An infection with the coronavirus would be "a disaster" for her and especially for her husband with his multiple previous illnesses, says the 89-year-old.

The couple who live in the “Haus am Park” in Bad Tölz were vaccinated on New Year's Eve.

“We both tolerated the injection well,” says Gertraud Simon.

The couple never had any concerns.

Both of them used to work as pharmacists and are somewhat familiar with the approval process.

"The vaccine has certainly been thoroughly tested," says the senior citizen.

Warning example of an easier decision

Melanie Dörr was initially rather skeptical.

The development of the vaccine went almost a little too fast for the nurse from Icking.

“I found that unusual.” So the 40-year-old checked out the intranet of her clinic - the Third Order in the Munich district of Nymphenburg - and from a colleague.

It had hit him in the first wave.

This colleague Melanie Dörr was a warning example.

“He is in his late twenties and was very healthy when he got infected,” says the mother of two.

"And now, almost a year later, he still doesn't manage to walk that long distance." The sense of taste has not returned yet either.

"It was relatively easy for me to decide whether to vaccinate or not."
