In a speech during a parliament meeting, Beştaş pointed to the continuing killings, kidnappings and forced displacement targeting the residents of Afrin, and said, “The Turkish army, with the support of terrorist groups loyal to Ankara, is occupying Afrin and its villages and is seeking to change the demographics of the city with the aim of controlling it in order to protect terrorist groups in Idlib and its vicinity.” .

Beştaş stated that the Turkish regime occupied Afrin, Ras al-Ain and Tal Abyad, forgetting that these areas are Syrian land and that there are Syrian citizens living there, noting that this regime seeks to protect terrorist organizations, including the "Al-Nusra Front."
