Paris was pushing in particular to the European Union for the establishment of health controls at intra-community borders.

We knew the idea on the summit table by videoconference started this Thursday evening between the Twenty-Seven: France has therefore decided to strengthen border restrictions including with other members of the European Union.

France will require, from Sunday at 00:00, a PCR test carried out 72 hours before departure for most European travelers wanting to enter its territory, President Emmanuel Macron announced to the European Council, the Elysee reported late Thursday evening .

This obligation will apply "excluding essential travel", specified the Elysee: "Frontier workers and land transport will in particular be exempt".

While Germany and France have just tightened their health measures to fight the coronavirus and the Netherlands plan to introduce a curfew, this 9th virtual meeting of European leaders aimed to harmonize the response to preserve the functioning of the internal market, the transport of goods and the daily life of cross-border workers.
