It was a good start to the new year for the Hellabrunn elephant family.
Baby elephant Otto is doing well - and already a real heavyweight at a young age.
Little Otto discovers his enclosure in the Hellabrunn zoo very light-footed.
The baby elephant has already doubled its birth weight and weighs an impressive 192 kilograms.
"If Otto stepped on your feet, it would be very painful," says animal keeper Daniel Materna.

Otto's first weighing took place in protected contact.
“That doesn't mean, however, that we have no contact with him at all.
In the meantime he has gotten so used to us that he comes running towards us in the morning when he sees us and likes to have his trunk petted. "
Thanks to Otto's curiosity, the weighing was very straightforward.
It quickly became clear: Otto weighs 192 kilograms.
However, there is still room for improvement. In comparison: Mama Temi currently weighs 3965 kilograms.
She had lost around 150 kilograms after Otto was born, but since then she has put on a few kilograms again.
The daily routine in the Hellabrunn elephant house is already a good routine: Otto spends a lot of time with Temi and his two aunts Mangala and Panang together on the sand facility.
There is always something for him to discover here - such as a large tractor tire.
In addition, he regularly stands on a small rock - "with that he shows: I'm already pretty tall!" Explains animal keeper Daniel Materna.
Otto is not allowed out yet.
"At the moment it's too cold for Otto on the one hand, and on the other hand we have to be sure that Otto will come back in when the gate opens - that still has to be practiced," says Materna with a smile.
