2020 should actually be big celebrations in Bernried.
But the festivities for the 900th anniversary of the monastery had to be postponed due to the Corona crisis.
Now the planning for the celebrations should be resumed - among other things in cooperation with the "Forum Humor".

- 900 years of Bernried Abbey: Actually, everything was already prepared for a big anniversary celebration last year - from the festival logo to the accompanying cultural program to the festival week as the highlight.
But the pandemic ruined the plans.
In retrospect, the Bernrieder are very happy about the postponement.
Because regardless of Corona, it would not have been a carefree celebration.
In the spring of 2020 it slowly leaked out that the missionary Benedictine Sisters might be forced to close the education house.
The future of the monastery suddenly hung by a thread.
"That would have been a mean catastrophe if we had first celebrated the anniversary and then announced the closure of the monastery in August," stated Mayor Georg Malterer (ÜFW) in the latest municipal council meeting.
As is well known, the situation around the monastery has now relaxed.
The community wants to buy the monastery property and take over the education center.
The primary school is also to be quartered in the east wing of the ensemble of buildings on Lake Starnberg.
The details of the contract are currently being regulated with the Missionary Benedictine Sisters.
So there is not much in the way of a carefree anniversary celebration.
But when will the festivities take place?
Will the Corona crisis allow a “901 year celebration”?
"We don't know whether it will be possible this year," admitted Malterer in the local council, "but we can't just let the planning rest all the time." There will certainly be a "post-Corona period" in which to celebrate could be.
And that is exactly what the Bernried-based company wants to be equipped for: “You can't always keep an eye on the imponderables,” argued Malterer: “You can always plan - and that's also fun.
And everything that you are planning now is not lost or saved. "The town hall chief has already made initial contacts - on the occasion of an exhibition by caricaturist Peter Gaymann in the Buchheim Museum (Virus Visions") for the Munich initiative "Forum Humor" .
The network of well-known artists such as cabaret artist Gerhard Polt and Gaymann aims to convert the old “Viehbank” in Munich's Schlachthofviertel into a “museum for humor and comic art”.
However, the plans are dragging on so that Bernried, in conjunction with the postponed cloister anniversary celebration, could become a kind of "branch office" of the forum at short notice.
According to Malterer, an exhibition with sculptures and installations, a cabaret performance by Polt and the Wellbrothers in the summer cellar or an open-air cabaret in the cloister courtyard are conceivable.
Initial discussions have already taken place at an on-site visit.
The possible cooperation with the “Forum Humor” met with great approval in the local council.
Third Mayor Markus del Fabbro (citizens' list) spoke of a "great thing" and a "great opportunity for Bernried".
Roland Seidl (also a citizen list) was already thinking of a long-term cooperation: The “Forum Humor” could be a “good door opener” for the operation and marketing of the summer cellar.
In any case, the initiative has excellent contacts in the cultural scene.
Katja Burgkart (ÜFW) was also enthusiastic: "Actually, there is no better way to celebrate a big celebration like the anniversary than with cabaret - and after 2020 the 'Forum Humor' is the very best choice."
