Recently, it has been reported that the Taiwanese personnel of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office of Taiwan in Hong Kong refused to obtain the renewal of work visas from the Hong Kong government when they refused to sign the "One-China Principle" closing letter, which required many people to return to Taiwan. Currently, there are only 12 Taiwanese personnel working in the office, and the only team leader is Ni Bojia, the economic team leader.

The Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan stated yesterday that the office is currently operating normally and it is applying for renewal in accordance with established procedures, stressing that the establishment of an office is the consensus of the two governments and calling on Hong Kong not to set up unnecessary obstacles.

The Hong Kong Immigration Department does not comment on individual cases.

The Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan emphasized that the Hong Kong office was established through negotiation and exchange of letters between the Taiwan and Hong Kong governments. It has always adhered to the principle of equality and reciprocity in handling the interaction between the two parties, and the visa renewal applications for Hong Kong personnel are based on established and standardized time procedures put forward.

The MAC also pointed out that the Taiwan government has repeatedly called on the Hong Kong side to consider the well-being of the people in Taiwan and Hong Kong, and should not set up unnecessary obstacles. It hopes to return to the existing consensus basis between the two sides to handle related matters and jointly maintain normal exchanges between Taiwan and Hong Kong. Protect the rights and interests of the people on both sides.

The Mainland Affairs Council stated that in order to protect and serve Taiwanese in Hong Kong, it has prepared a plan to respond and will stick to it to maintain the normal operation of the library.

The Immigration Department stated that immigration controls are implemented in accordance with Hong Kong laws. When processing each application, it will follow the relevant laws and policies and fully consider the actual situation of the case before deciding whether to approve the application.

The SAR government will not comment on individual cases or disclose individual case information.
