Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif confirmed today that the United States is blocking the allocation of frozen Iranian assets in South Korea to pay for the right to vote in the United Nations.
On the suspension of Iran's right to vote in the United Nations General Assembly due to non-payment of membership subscription, Zarif said, according to what the Fars News Agency quoted: “Iran has allocated the necessary funds for this and determined its source from the frozen Iranian assets in South Korea, but Washington prevented the funds from depositing the money into the United Nations account.”
Last Sunday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatib Zadeh confirmed that Iran had paid its annual subscription fees to the United Nations, despite the restrictions resulting from the US embargo.
