A demonstrator against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was summoned this week, he said, to a "scare investigation" at the police station.

Yonatan Meir, a resident of Tel Aviv, received a phone call on Monday asking him to come to the Moriah station in Jerusalem.

He said he was told at the station that he was not questioned with a warning as a suspect and was also not offered to consult a lawyer.

However, he said investigators asked him what he did at the demonstration last Saturday, and slammed him for sometimes leading an illegal march and that he was "very dominant" in the march.

Meir says he did not lead the march and denied the allegations in the investigation.

He was warned not to lead illegal marches, and was told that if he did so he would be questioned with a warning and indicted.

"I told the investigator that this is a very well-known method of suppressing demonstrations, to take dominant demonstrators for the sake of seeing and being seen," he describes.

"They just tried to scare me. It was a scare investigation. Trying to scare a person out of demonstrating. Like in the darkest countries there is."

Attorney Daniel Haklai, representing Meir, says the police may summon a citizen for testimony or to collect a suspect's notice under a warning. He said, "There is no other option.

If Jonathan had been interrogated as a suspect, the interrogator should have allowed him to consult with me before his interrogation.

Since the investigator did not do so, it is clear that this is not an investigation of a suspect.

As stated, this is also not an investigation until a crime is committed.

"" This is an intimidation investigation against a law-abiding citizen who exercises his democratic right to demonstrate.

I take this seriously.

"I will turn to the Attorney General, the Attorney General of the Police and the incoming Commissioner - General to prevent similar phenomena in the future," he added.
