After the numerous reactions to the publication of the book by the lawyer Camille Kouchner on suspected sexual abuse, French President Emmanuel Macron wants to take tightened measures to combat sexual violence in the family.
You have to punish the criminals for their past actions and collect testimony from people who have also been victims years and decades ago, Macron said in a video posted on his Twitter account.
Children who are victims of incest and sexual violence need better protection, said the head of state.
According to the French news agency AFP, Macron has tasked Justice Minister Eric Dupond-Moretti and State Secretary for Children and Family, Adrien Taquet, with holding consultations and making proposals as soon as possible.
In early January Kouchner published a book about alleged sexual abuse in her famous family.
The work sparked a debate about incest and encouraged many people to use the hashtag #metooinceste to share their experiences of abuse within the family.
The hashtag is based on the catchphrase MeToo, which for several years has been representative of the fight against everyday sexism, abuse and coercion worldwide.
