Attachment to the land and belonging to it are words embodied by the farmer Hamad Al-Hujali from the province of Sweida through his work with his land, his adherence to it, and his practice of plowing by using the old plow tied to horses, which is one of the ancestral heritage.

The 65-year-old uncle Al-Hajali told a SANA reporter during his work that the ancient profession of plowing, known as “feddan plowing,” inherited it from his father and he has been working in it for more than fifty years and today he is working on teaching it to his children.

Al-Hijali, or Abu Faisal, as he is called, said that plowing by relying on horses, despite its hardship and difficulty, is better than plowing by tractor, because it is more beneficial to the land in terms of productivity and does not keep weeds harmful to the soil.

Abu Faysal’s relationship with the land is old, as he explained when he was 14 years old, when he finds that preserving and sticking to the land is a continuation of life and giving, and that whoever does not preserve his land loses his dignity and pride.

Abu Faisal pointed out that by working with the land, a source of income would be secured for his family, indicating that he is working today on an area of 11 dunums in the Salkhad area, which he prepares to grow wheat in agreement with its owner in exchange for a part of the production, in addition to plowing many lands for rent.

The cruelty of life as a result of working with the land is evident in the features of Abu Faisal's face and his strong hands, which drag the plow tied to the horse and accomplish the cultivation of a number of dunams per day in addition to his cultivation after preparing the land and using 7 kilograms of seed for each dunum he sowed with wheat as mentioned.

Uncle Abu Faisal believes that he who does not have an old legacy does not have anything new, wishing to preserve this old heritage in agriculture and teach it to the current generations, as it represents a source of pride and pride for every farmer.

According to the young Imad, his father Abu Faisal is an example for them through his relationship with the land and accompanies him with his brothers to help him sometimes, as well as to learn this ancient profession from him, which does not require costs and does not require fuel and which provides for production costs.

According to Adnan al-Nimr, a member of the executive office of the Suwayda Farmers Union, Abu Faisal reminds us of the heritage of our people, how they used to deal with the land and plow their land with the so-called feddan plowing that has great benefits and gives the land through which better productivity

Abu Faisal remains one of the Syrian farmers who persevered and clung to their land for the sake of the continuity of life and the achievement of good and giving.
