The United States Senate just voted on a bipartisan basis to confirm Janet Yellen as Secretary of the Treasury, making her the first woman in US history to hold the position.
The vote was 84-15.
As head of the Treasury Department, she will be tasked with guiding President Biden's US $ 1.9 trillion Rescue Plan through Congress and overseeing its execution.
The plan includes stimulus checks of US $ 1,400, expanded unemployment benefits and increased funding for vaccines and covid-19 tests.
