The Colombian Defense Minister, Carlos Holmes Trujillo, died at dawn this Tuesday, according to his brother José Renán on the social network Twitter.
The country's presidency reported last week that Trujillo had been hospitalized after being infected with coronavirus.
His brother Carlos Holmes did not specify in his message if COVID-19 was the cause of his death.
“It is with deep pain that I receive the passing of my brother.
He fought for his convictions and died defending them, ”wrote José Renán Trujillo.
The former president of Colombia, Álvaro Uribe Vélez, confirmed the news.
"The death of Minister Carlos Holmes Trujillo breaks the soul, it leaves me a tremendous orphan," he published in the same social.

Colombia has experienced a second acute phase of the pandemic this month.
At least 2 million people were infected and more than 51,000 died, according to Johns Hopkins University.
