A US federal court on Tuesday blocked the Joe Biden administration's decision to freeze deportations of illegal immigrants for 100 days.
Seized urgently by the Republican authorities in Texas, Judge Drew Tipton decided to temporarily suspend this measure until a substantive examination of the case.

In accordance with one of his campaign promises, Democrat Joe Biden signed on his first day at the White House a moratorium on the deportation of undocumented migrants who arrived in the United States before November 1, 2020. The Minister of Justice of the Texas Ken Paxton immediately went to court.
On Tuesday, he welcomed a court decision "
which prioritizes respect for the law and the security of citizens
".
But the powerful civil rights organization ACLU accused him of "
wanting to prevent the Biden administration from turning the page
" on "
disastrous migration policies
" carried out, according to it, by his predecessor Donald Trump.

This legal battle, which is only just beginning, probably foreshadows the bitter fighting to come around migration issues.
Joe Biden indeed took the opposite view of the Republican administration on January 20, canceling the most controversial measures adopted by Donald Trump, including his proposed wall on the border with Mexico.
He also sent a bill to Congress that could lead to the regularization of millions of undocumented migrants, which is a red rag for many of his opponents.
