Dispute over the Brussels agricultural billions: Whatever the green field to the political battlefield

2021-01-26T23:34:48.731Z

It's about the agricultural billions for German farmers, climate protection - and the question of who will harvest the Ministry of Agriculture after the election. The Greens are turning the field into a political battlefield.

When it comes to money, arguments are easy.

When it comes to billions of euros and climate protection, the tone quickly becomes sharp.

As is currently the case in the dispute between Agriculture Minister Julia Klöckner (CDU) and the Greens.

They position themselves for the election campaign and at the same time try to prevent Klöckner, with the distribution of the Brussels agricultural billions, from fixing the structure of agriculture for years in a way that they consider problematic.

It is quite possible that the Greens will head the ministry themselves after the general election.

The final negotiations are currently underway in Brussels on the reform of the so-called Common Agricultural Policy (GAP) of the European Union - and thus on the distribution of around six billion euros in subsidies for German agriculture alone.

What is being negotiated at EU level must then be translated into national funding programs as quickly as possible.

The federal states are involved, including the Greens.
