The Emirates, one of the closest allies of the United States in the Middle East, has long coveted advanced Lockheed Martin stealth.

The Trump administration promised her an opportunity to acquire them in a side deal, after agreeing to normalize relations with Israel last August.

The deal has sparked controversy in Israel, after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu initially claimed he did not give such approval during talks leading to an agreement with the United Arab Emirates, one of four agreements the Trump administration has reached with Arab countries.

However, Defense Minister Bnei Gantz said Netanyahu hid the negotiations, while the prime minister claimed that the agreement was given regardless of normalization with the emirates.
