Three weeks after Trump supporters rushed the Capitol, the US Department of Homeland Security sees another threat of violence by extremists. A terror warning was therefore issued across the country.

Donald Trump is not mentioned directly, but he should be meant: There is concern that "incorrect narratives" could incite a broad spectrum of "ideologically motivated people" to acts of violence in the USA, said the Department of Homeland Security.

As a result, a nationwide terrorist alert was issued three weeks after the Washington Capitol was attacked.

There is an increased risk from circles of people who are frustrated by the election result of the Democrat Joe Biden, the ministry said on Wednesday.

"Ideologically motivated violent extremists" could instigate violence or commit acts of violence.

There is therefore an "increased threat environment" across the country.

Although there are currently no indications of specific attack plans, the ministry said.

But there is a risk of new violence for weeks.

Ex-President Trump had repeatedly claimed without evidence that his election victory had been stolen by fraud by the Democrats.

Radical supporters of his had stormed the Capitol on January 6th to prevent a final confirmation of Biden's victory in the November 3rd presidential election.

One policeman was killed in the attack and five people were killed.

Such bulletins from the US Homeland Security Department describe current developments and trends.

They differ from other departmental warnings that list specific terrorist threats.

In the bulletin, the ministry also warned that there was an overall risk that violent actions, as in the previous year, could continue, in which extremists, out of anger over migration policy, ethnic tensions, the election results or corona-related restrictions, planned and sometimes even committed acts of violence.

The risk of attacks on critical infrastructures, for example in the telecommunications or health sector, has increased in the past year.

Disinformation and conspiracy theories surrounding the corona pandemic have driven violent extremists to such actions.
