Yannick Bestaven crossed the finish line of the Vendée Globe in the night from Wednesday to Thursday as the winner, opens wide the doors of the Pantheon of offshore racing but the feat does not make the winner a wealthy man even if the fallout afterwards the ordeal can be very profitable.
The winner of the 2020-2021 edition will be no exception to this rule.
He will receive a check for 200,000 euros, or a quarter of the overall prize awarded this year (the equivalent of qualifying for the round of 16 at the Roland Garros tournament).
This was 600,000 euros four years ago, it was increased to 800,000 for the ninth edition for an overall budget of around 16 million euros.
