At least five people lost their lives on Wednesday in a traffic accident in the state of Táchira, Venezuela, Táchira Civil Protection Director Jaiberth Zambrano told CNN.
The accident occurred on a lonely highway that connects the state capital, San Cristóbal, with the border town of San Antonio del Táchira, on the border with Colombia.
According to preliminary information, the brakes on a military truck carrying immigrants jammed and the vehicle rolled over, a government spokeswoman told CNN.
In addition to the fatalities, more than a dozen people were injured in the accident, as confirmed to CNN by both the director of Civil Protection and the government spokesperson.
