Youth work is currently a difficult area.

The Don Bosco Club in Benediktbeuern has also been closed again since December.

The supervisors try other ways to maintain contact with students and young people in the Loisach Valley.

Benediktbeuern / Schlehdorf

- There is currently an online meeting every Friday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. via the Zoom platform.

That is less of an offer than in the first lockdown, but: "We have noticed that all the homeschooling has made young people tired of accepting several online offers from us," says club director Luise Klingebiel.

That is why one evening a week turned out to be useful.

You play games together or just rattle.

“We are of course also open to ideas from the participants,” says Klingebiel.

The number of participants varies: "Sometimes it's more, sometimes less." The offer always applies, even if only one person registers.

"We had very nice conversations there too."

The three employees - short-time work has been requested for them - are currently restructuring their work in order to help where they are needed, for example in the emergency care of the Benediktbeurer school.

"There are currently no regular breaks as usual," says Klingebiel.

"Everything is different for the teachers too, they have to juggle various video conferences."

Street worker Marcus Kolm, for example, comes by twice a week to take a “break”, seeks a conversation with the students, walks with them around the area or plays a game, all coordinated with the hygiene requirements.

“He offers something like spiritual support.

That goes down well, ”says Klingebiel.

One focus is currently the individual case work.

Anyone who has a concern can contact them at any time: The supervisors can be reached via WhatsApp, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, SMS and also by phone.

“It is possible to meet one person,” says Klingebiel.

For example, you can meet outside to go for a walk together and talk.

It is also possible to play a game of table football or billiards with the young people alone.

The problems of young people are manifold.

On the one hand, there is often a lot of pressure from school.

"Some get along with it, others don't," says Klingebiel.

“If you haven't understood something, you can't just ask the person sitting next to you.” Many would find it difficult to sit alone in front of the PC for a long time and have tasks.

“And you can't meet friends to ease the burden.” Then there would be conflicts with parents.

"It's not easy for everyone." Letting off steam on a club employee is important for many.

The club team is currently preparing a three-part online seminar that it will hold at the schools in Benediktbeuern and Schlehdorf.

It's about dealing with social media.

“We want to talk to the students about data protection, criminal offenses and fake news.” The students should take a close look at which apps they use and what they post.

"If face-to-face lessons are possible again, we'll do it in school," says Klingebiel.

The club team hopes that it will be able to continue with its usual work on site in the foreseeable future.

"Until then, we'll just be there for the students and young people in a different way," says the director.

"We are happy about everyone who gets in touch."
