Since the beginning of this year, the Water Resources Directorate in Homs has started operations to remove and rehabilitate the two irrigation canals affected by terrorism in Zita and Josiah in the governorate countryside to prepare them before the irrigation season that begins next May in preparation for releasing water towards agricultural lands.
In a statement to SANA's correspondent today, Eng. Ismail Ismail, Director of Water Resources in Homs, indicated that the directorate began, at the beginning of this year, to rehabilitate the irrigation canals in Zita and Josiah, which would contribute to irrigating about 6,800 hectares of agricultural land during this season.
He indicated that the rehabilitation of the two canals is carried out through two decades, the first with a value of 48 million pounds and the second with a value of 122 million pounds, and the two contracts from the implementation of the General Organization for Military Construction in Homs, explaining that the Jose Canal irrigates the areas of Josiah, Agriculture, Al-Qusayr and Al-Amar, where 13 branches branch out towards agricultural lands to irrigate alone 3800 hectares of The aforementioned areas as far as the Zita channel irrigates villages west of the Orontes, such as Zita and al-Hammam.
Ismail emphasized that these irrigated areas help improve the living conditions of farmers, employ labor, and return the displaced to their lands and villages.
