Well, if that's not a splendid specimen of a snowman: For a few days now, the sculpture on the “Kirchwiesen” in Peiting has not been overlooked. “You must have had a lot of time and fun”, so the thought of a walker who also picks up the phone to inform the local newspaper about the ice-cold handsome boy.

Peiting - It is understandable that one becomes curious.

So off to the Kohlenstraße, where the creator of this figure is at home.

You don't need to ask around for long, every child there knows that Wolfgang Ullrich created this eye-catcher.

And he patiently explains his creative urge: "In earlier times we and the family made all sorts of animal sculptures with snow," explains Ullrich.

And now the 65-year-old former telecommunications engineer has packed it again.

“Back to the roots”, one could say.

For three days, Ullrich spent three hours creating the work.

"At the bottom it has a diameter of 2.90 meters," is his first measurement that he reveals.

The Schneeberg was then pulled up using “climbing formwork that grew with the child”.

At a height of exactly 3.70 meters.

Ullrich then carved out the body of the snowman from a ladder, practically in fine work.

Somehow the inner retired engineer voice also got in touch.

And she wanted to know the weight of this monster.

Don't thumbs up, it should be right.

So Ullrich came to the conclusion that 6.7 tons of snow were shoveled together by him.

A “white dream” for Wolfgang Ullrich would be if other fathers and shapers could decide to create more sculptures on the meadow.

There would be enough space and not only the children would enjoy it.

Another snowman fan is Michael Trainer (52).

He had a great idea last weekend: he built a snowman with his sons Sebastian (18) and Tobias (16).

And he can really be seen: "With a hat he measures a proud 3.50 meters," says Trainer.

Mind you, the hat is a rain barrel: "All the other buckets were just too small, that's why we took the barrel."

They had to heave them up next to the top ball over a beer table.

“If the snowman had gotten even bigger, we would have needed scaffolding,” says the trainer with a laugh.

In addition to the considerable size, the muscular arms stand out: "We put a piece of wood on the right and left so that we could put our muscles on it." They stood in the cold for three hours, building was done for him and his sons but great fun.

But Wildsteig-Kreuth now has a new resident - at least until the next thaw.
