The workshops in the arts of Arabic calligraphy and gilding, in which four Iranian artists participate along with a group of Syrian artists and calligraphers, opened windows for dialogue, exchange of experiences, and knowledge of the peculiarities of these arts in both countries.

The workshops, which came in cooperation with the Society of the House of Arabic Calligraphy and Arts, were accompanied by an exhibition entitled “Iranian artistic touches” at the Iranian Cultural Chancellery, which included about 40 paintings in the arts of calligraphy, gilding, and the Minator, with the participation of the Iranian calligrapher Abdullah Zadeh and the Iranian decorators Leila Azimi, Zahra Khalqi and Zahra Shaqlani.

About the exhibition, the decorated artist Shaqlani, who specializes in the art of the miniature, told SANA that the exhibition provided an opportunity with the workshops to introduce Iranian calligraphy and decoration arts to artists and the public in Syria and to exchange experiences, which in her opinion will be reflected in the participants’ work in the future.

In turn, plastic artist Reem Kabtan, chairperson of the Board of Directors of the House of Arabic Calligraphy and Arts, clarified that the event strengthens dialogue and cultural exchange between the two friendly countries and the participants to learn about new knowledge in the arts of calligraphy, gilding, decoration, and miniature.

For his part, the calligrapher Adham Al-Jaafari, who participated in the workshop, pointed out that the event provided an opportunity to exchange experiences and knowledge between Iranian and Syrian calligraphers, especially in the arts of gilding for paintings and the steps for implementing them, especially for young artists, considering that such realistic events are important for all artists to achieve real communication between them.

The calligrapher Ahmad Siwar, who participated in the workshop, indicated that the event provided the opportunity to learn about the methods of implementing Iranian calligraphy and the Minator, especially the Nasta'liq script, stressing that such joint events with Iranian artists are important and should continue to exchange experiences between artists specialized in calligraphy arts.

The two young artists, Nour Najeba and Maysa Al-Daqer, expressed their happiness at participating in the workshop, in which the participants gained new experiences and technical and technical knowledge in the arts of gilding, while learning about the secrets of the art of miniature painting using gouache and acrylic techniques, in addition to the visual and artistic pleasure provided by the exhibition's work.

In turn, Mustafa Maddah Nazari, the artistic official in the Iranian Cultural Chancellery, explained that Iranian art is about a thousand years old, and its inscriptions were borrowed from the Sassanid era, which were mixed with Islamic arts and were influenced by them in terms of aesthetics and documentation of narratives, especially mysticism, describing the event as a bridge of communication between the two friendly peoples to create artistic and civilized cooperation.

The workshop continues its activities until the end of the week at the Dummar Museum of Modern Art, in cooperation with the Directorate of Fine Arts, within the festive activities of the Syrian Formation Days held by the Ministry of Culture.
