With the approach of Christmas and New Year's Eve this evening, the people of Marmarita town in Wadi Al-Nadari in the western countryside of Homs Governorate lit the Christmas tree in the main town square in the presence of a large number of people.

In statements to SANA's reporter, Bahaa Masouh, one of the event's organizers, confirmed that decorating the tree in the main town square has become an annual tradition, wishing that the Christmas tree would be a renewal of goodness and peace for Syria.

The head of the Saint Peter’s Monastery in Marmarita, Father Walid Scandavi, considered that the phenomenon of lighting the tree aims to bring joy and happiness to all residents and visitors to the region, especially in light of the difficult conditions that Syria is experiencing, which requires standing together and calling for good, love and hope that the next is better.

Nidal Qastoun from the work team in the decoration of the tree explained that they worked to make the tree this year different from the previous years and the trees of other villages and towns by introducing a new technology in lighting and adopting the white and red colors only, pointing out that the height of the tree is 13 meters and its circumference is 10 meters.

A number of 35 young men and women volunteering to decorate the tree expressed their happiness and joy in lighting it after working on it for a whole month.

Elias Yazigi, Hanna Makhoul and Rita Karam from Marmarita residents confirmed that this event confirms that despite all the pain, siege, challenges and sanctions on Syria, the Syrians are still determined to confront it by planting hope, smile and joy throughout their country.
