A husband who introduced himself as a graduate of the prestigious Ponivez yeshiva in Bnei Brak, was discovered after his marriage as a criminal who was in prison and who consumed hard drugs.
After seven months of marriage, when his wife was in early pregnancy, he disappeared and did not even appear for hearings in the rabbinical court.
He is currently refusing to grant a divorce to his wife despite the demands of the judges, who warn that if he is released from prison before giving a divorce he will disappear again - and may turn his wife into an aguna.
The affair began about two years ago, when the couple met at the initiative of the husband's mother.
The two married, but ten days later it was discovered that the husband was not who he claimed to be.
"He took me to Tel Aviv and took out powders in front of my eyes, hard drugs.
I made it clear to him that this would not happen to me, "his ex-wife told the court." Once a month he would disappear and leave me alone.
I did not know he was in jail, if I had known he was in jail I would not have married him.
I stayed with him only because of the pregnancy. "
The woman's lawyer described to the judges that he was a man who pretended to be an ultra-Orthodox.
After the marriage ran aground, the man disappeared, leaving his wife without a divorce and not appearing for court hearings.
After a few months he was caught at random.
It also turned out that he was sentenced to an additional prison term.
At subsequent hearings he claimed he did not want a divorce, but later added: "I will not be refused, and if I have to I will get a divorce."
In practice, however, he does not give the desired divorce, this is partly due to a dispute over joint funds.
Today their joint son is one year and three months old, and the father rarely sees him, although there are sight arrangements between the two spouses.
The judges ruled in a recent ruling that the husband must divorce his wife immediately, "and there is even room to force him to do so."
If he refuses to do so, the woman will be able to open a case for imposing restraining orders.
In addition, if the husband ends his imprisonment before granting a divorce, he will not be released from prison until he does so because there is a fear that he will try to escape.
