The 70-year-old farmer reacted with quick-wittedness and drove the burning and smoking tractor from the farmyard to a meadow to prevent the flames from spreading to a building.
Fortunately, the man was not injured, police said.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire.
The cause was probably a technical defect in the area of the tractor's fuses.
In addition to the police and fire brigades, the rescue service was also on site.
