After six days of continuous operation due to the hailstorm, the fire brigade takes stock. 1871 forces cope with 1208 sorties. Now, on top of that, the rescuers say thank you themselves.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen – Since the hailstorm on Saturday, the fire brigade in the district has processed 1208 operations. 1871 forces were deployed. This is what Stefan Kießkalt, press spokesman for the district fire inspectorate, writes in a final report on Thursday evening.

In Benediktbeuern and Arzbach, Bichl, Kochel, Ried and Lenggries in particular, the fire brigades were in continuous operation and had gone "to their performance limits" "in order to be able to help the citizens in the greatest need with safety measures".

Hail damage: 641 fire brigade operations in Benediktbeuern

In total, the fire brigade counted 2600 building damages, the largest of them in Benediktbeuern. There alone, the fire brigade carried out 641 operations. There were 175 in Arzbach, 150 in Kochel, 68 in Ried and 115 in Bichl.

An operations management was set up in the Benediktbeurer fire station. Support came from fire brigades from the entire district as well as from Weilheim-Schongau, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Starnberg and the district of Munich, as well as from mountain rescue services, THW, police and BRK. The fire brigade installed 71 emergency roofs, 123,500 square metres of foil (equivalent to 18 football pitches) and 6250 linear metres of roof battens. She filled 18,500 sandbags with 240 tons of sand to weigh down the foils on the roofs.

Two firefighters injured in operations after hail

In addition to a serious accident on Wednesday, another firefighter was slightly injured when he twisted his ankle in action.

"The self-help of the population and the cohesion within the villages led to a relief of the emergency services," praises Kießkalt. "Many residents supplied themselves with materials such as sandbags and foils at the central warehouse in the fire station in Benediktbeuern." Already on Tuesday, but also on Wednesday, more and more craft companies were deployed in the damage area to start repairing the roofs.

Municipality of Benediktbeuern sets up hotline for further emergencies

For emergencies that arise again acutely, the municipality of Benediktbeuern has set up a hotline under the telephone number 08857/6913-33. "This is available around the clock for the reporting of emergency operations exclusively for securing roof tarpaulins that have already been installed." A carpentry company commissioned for this purpose will then take care of securing the roof tarpaulins – for a fee.

Head of operations and district fire officer Erich Zengerle was deeply impressed by the large-scale operation: "The performance of the fire brigades, the fast and uncomplicated supra-local help as well as the cohesion and help of the population were simply unbelievable," he says. "The cooperation with the employees of the municipalities and the mayors also worked without any problems and we always had a contact person at our side." Therefore, the firefighters would like to thank the fire brigade for their "outstanding support" and "understanding within the population". "The supply of drinks, food and many words of gratitude led to a high level of motivation and thus to an enormous efficiency of the emergency services."
