The K-case is over. Nevertheless, the hail-stricken community of Bad Bayersoien continues to receive support. Because the work continues.

Bad Bayersoien – Many people's nerves are tense. Difficult days and hours lie behind the Bayersoiers, since the hail on Saturday severely damaged their village, some of their houses. In the meantime, the big clean-up has begun. Containers were set up to be able to dispose of debris. This work, as well as the repair of the roofs, will take some time.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday evening at 18:25 p.m., District Administrator Anton Speer (Free Voters) lifted the state of emergency that he had declared on Sunday. "The severe storm with the destructive hail was and is a catastrophe," Speer emphasizes. That's why it was the logical decision. With this step, the responsibility is transferred from the district office as a disaster control authority to the municipality. However, the municipality of 1300 inhabitants continues to receive support from emergency services as well as administrative staff from the district.

Emergency roofs from Cham and Coburg, among others

As with the snow disaster in January 2018, the K-case status made it possible for men and women from rescue organizations as well as material from neighboring districts and beyond to arrive in Bad Bayersoien. Thus, the urgently needed emergency roofs were delivered from various corners of Bavaria. From Rosenheim, Cham, Coburg and Würzburg, for example. On Wednesday, Speer says, more arrived from the Kitzingen district. At times, more than 370 forces were deployed. The largest part was provided by the fire brigade, followed by the mountain rescue service, the Federal Agency for Technical Relief and the Bavarian Red Cross, as well as the police, according to the district office. Everyone pulled together to alleviate the emergency. Mayor Gisela Kieweg is overwhelmed by the "great support". Without the helpers, "it wouldn't have worked so well by far," emphasizes the head of the town hall. Words with which Speer can only agree. Above all, he appreciates the work of the operations management and their "professional organization of the operation".

Every hand was needed and is still needed. Because 80 percent of the buildings in the village were hit by the ice grains, some of which were the size of tennis balls. Of the total of 384 buildings affected, 198 were supplied with emergency roofs, and a further 186 houses with other tarpaulins and foils. Although the hail also demolished vehicles parked outdoors, the primary task of the emergency services was to secure the roofs and windows of the damaged properties and to seal them with tarpaulins and the requested emergency roofs. Not an easy task. Continuous rain made the work more difficult, which lasted into the night. "I was worried that someone might fall off the roof," says Kieweg. Fortunately, no accidents occurred.
