The rockslide in the Maurienne valley, between Modane and St-Michel-Valloire, in Savoie never ceases to have consequences. While road traffic is partly blocked between France and Italy, rail journeys have also been impossible on both sides of the Alps since Sunday. This is why the Italian company Trenitalia is interrupting the circulation of its Paris-Lyon journeys until "further notice". More specifically, "the Frecciarossa Paris - Lyon 6650, 6651, 6647, 6654, 6656, 6655 circulate normally until September 3." "From September 4, the circulation of these trains is also suspended until further notice," the transport company added in a statement.
But then why suspend a journey that is not affected by the incident? Trenitalia explains: "Our fleet of Frecciarossa trains running in France and between France and Italy must regularly pass through the maintenance workshops near Milan for safety reasons." In other words, the closure of the Paris-Milan line makes it impossible to monitor and repair these trains, "pending the restoration of international service".

The transport company is therefore "constantly monitoring the evolution of the situation with the local authorities and the infrastructure manager for the rehabilitation of the tracks in Maurienne." And hopes for a recovery "as soon as possible". Users will be able to request a full refund of the ticket up to 24 hours after the original date of travel. SNCF, meanwhile, said train traffic between France and Italy would be interrupted until at least September 10.
