The two most powerful vehicles of the Dodge brand — the Charger SRT Hellcat and the Charger HEMI — are the two most likely vehicles to be stolen in the United States, according to a study released Thursday.

The study, conducted by the Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), points out that the Charger SRT Hellcat, a sedan equipped with a 6.2-liter supercharged engine and with 717 horsepower, is 60 times more likely to be stolen than the average vehicle in the United States.

For its part, the Charger HEMI, a sedan with a 485-horsepower engine, is 20 times more likely to be stolen than an average vehicle.

Behind the two Dodge muscle cars, as these types of vehicles are known in the United States, are the luxury vehicle Infinity Q50, the Dodge Challenger and the Land Rover Range Rover.

The study also found that since a series of videos were popularized on social networks that reveal how to overcome with extreme ease the anti-theft systems of Hyundai and Kia vehicles, four vehicles of the latter brand have been among the 20 most stolen in the US.

The front-wheel-drive Kia Sportage is the sixth most stolen vehicle while the four-wheel drive Sportage ranks eighth. The Rio and Forte models are the eleventh and twelfth, respectively.

Precisely, the city of Chicago filed a complaint last week against Hyundai and Kia for exaggerating the anti-theft measures of their vehicles, despite the fact that they did not have immobilizers and other advanced security systems, which is causing an epidemic of thefts in the city.

The lawsuit accuses the two South Korean automakers of failing to install "vital anti-theft technology" in vehicles they sold in the United States between 2011 and 2022, a decision that has disproportionately affected the city's lowest-income residents.

While the Charger SRT Hellcat starts at $92,845, the Kia Rio costs $16,750 and the Forte $19,690.
