Due to a lack of engine parts from Slovenia, VW temporarily stops the assembly lines in Portugal. Production at the assembly plant in Palmela near Lisbon is expected to be suspended from September 11 to November 12, a company spokesman said on Thursday in Wolfsburg. The reason for this is a supplier of engine parts affected by the floods, which is currently only able to deliver to a limited extent.

Lisbon/Wolfsburg - In an internal letter to the employees in Palmela, which is available to the German Press Agency, it said: "The plant management informs about the cessation of production due to the shortage of essential components for the construction of the T-Roc in the period according to current forecasts from September 11 to November 12." The Portuguese plant had already announced on Tuesday that it would temporarily interrupt production from September, but left the exact period open for the time being.

Due to the lack of engine parts, there is also a risk of production losses in Germany, but to a much lesser extent. In Emden, two shifts are to be cancelled in the period from September 11 to October 1, the company spokesman confirmed. Previously, the NDR had reported on it.

There is also a threat of failures at VW Commercial Vehicles in Hanover. At the works meeting on Wednesday, the workforce was informed that "temporary failures in the production of the T6.1 and certain engine variants of the Multivan are to be expected," a VWCV spokesman confirmed.

The Group expects that there will also be outages at other locations. However, the electric models are not affected, according to the company spokesman. The missing parts from Slovenia are gears for the powertrain of internal combustion engines. Dpa
