Moosburg – From kindergarten children to pensioners: Climbing inspires more and more people across generations. You no longer have to go to the mountains to practice the sport. Today, many cities (e.g. Freising) have a climbing facility that meets various requirements - whether secured on a rope or bouldering without safety and with a padded fall arrest mat. In Moosburg, too, the German Alpine Club (DAV) has been operating a climbing facility in the former water tower near the cemetery for around 20 years. But because demand now exceeds supply, the Moosburg section of the DAV is now making big plans.

The system in the water tower has long since ceased to be sufficient

"With the aim of supporting the growing enthusiasm for climbing and bouldering, the association is planning to build a new climbing hall," reports Peter Oehm, climbing consultant at the DAV Moosburg, in a press release. The facility should "meet the needs of the steadily growing climbing community". Since the conversion of the old water tower on Egilbertstraße into a climbing tower, climbing has become a popular sport in the village. Oehm: "The increasing number of visitors and the growing number of youth groups using the tower clearly show that the existing facilities are reaching their limits."

The new climbing hall is to be built at the existing clubhouse on the edge of the city forest. When it comes to the target group of the "modern and extensive facility", those responsible not only have current members in mind, but also new user groups. "With the new building, the DAV Moosburg wants to upgrade the city's sports infrastructure and further promote climbing," says the announcement of the club, which has around 2300 people - currently the largest in the city of three roses.

As the Moosburg Alpine Club writes, the planned project aims to "send a clear signal for the future of sport in the region and offer climbing enthusiasts a new platform to live out their passion".
