/ 109th place: Saxony's state capital Dresden is also represented in the ranking. The metropolis on the Elbe stands out particularly positively when it comes to medical care, with almost 85 percent of people satisfied with this, according to Eurostat data. Top sights include the Dresden Zwinger, the Semperoper Opera House, and the Frauenkirche. © Andreas Franke/Imago

/ 10Warsaw ranks 8th in the Best Ager City Index thanks to a high sense of security and a wide range of museums. On the other hand, only 38.7 percent of people are satisfied with medical care. © Zoonar/Imago

/ 107th place: The situation is different in Tartu, Estonia, where 84 percent of people are convinced of the medical offer. In addition, according to the Numbeo database, the security index is an impressive 79.1 percent. But what is there to do in Tartu? On the one hand, the old town is worth seeing, which is a listed building and has a wide range of medieval and modern influences. On top of that, the oldest city in the Baltic States is home to the Estonian National Museum, whose beginnings date back a good 100 years. © Danita Delimont/Imago

/ 106th place: The Slovenian capital Ljubljana is also a great destination for best agers, as proclaimed by the City Index. It has already won the Access City Award, which is awarded for accessibility, four times. In addition, 78.2 percent of people are satisfied with the safety on site. © Sebastian Wasek/Imago

/ 105th place: Prague has a lot to offer in terms of culture – in addition to the impressive Old Town with the medieval astronomical clock at the Town Hall, travelers can visit over 100 museums during their stay. The Czech capital scores particularly well when it comes to medical care: just over 85 percent of people are satisfied with it, which is the best value in the analysis. © Herbert Meyrl/Imago

/ 104th place: The German capital also performs well in the City Index. As in Prague, people here feel that they are well cared for medically (83 percent) and can enjoy a huge selection of museums. On top of that, Berlin is a bit "greener" than Prague: 43.8 percent of the green areas enjoy shady trees. © Shotstop/Imago

/ 103rd place: Let's go to Barcelona! Best Agers can look forward to many hours of sunshine and numerous museums here - so there is enough for both a visit to the beach and cultural interest. However, there is still room for improvement in the security index, which stands at 50.2 percent. © Mara Brandl/Imago

/ 102nd place: Best agers who want to save money are in good hands in Budapest: a cup of cappuccino costs an average of 1.76 euros, beer for 1.98 euros and a single trip by public transport costs an average of only 87 cents. There's also plenty to see, with highlights including the Parliament Building, the Fisherman's Bastion, and Heroes' Square. © Panthermedia/Imago

/ 101st place: Málaga, the leader of the Best Ager City Index, can also be cheap. Travellers only pay around 1.74 euros for a cup of cappuccino, and public transport is also affordable at 1.40 euros for a single trip. On top of that, 7.5 hours of sunshine per day await on the southern Spanish coast and a proportion of trees of 53.6 percent on the green areas. Málaga also scores well in terms of safety: 72.9 percent of people feel comfortable here. © YAY Images/Imago

With age, priorities can change when it comes to travel – safety suddenly plays a bigger role, as does medical care. However, the cliché of organised bus trips has little to do with reality: As the Foundation for Future Studies reported a few years ago, the age group aged 50 and over attaches great importance to actively shaping their trips and pursuing their individual interests.

The tour operator Tui has looked into the question of which travel destinations best meet the expectations of best agers – for example, based on the number of museums, the safety index, the cost of public transport or satisfaction with medical care. This has resulted in the Best Ager City Index.
