Photos prove the almost unbelievable: An athlete claims that she narrowly escaped a figure from ancient legends during a marathon.
Honolulu — Runner Kay Borleis is sure she encountered the ghost of an ancient warrior in a forest in Hawaii during a marathon. And all this without even realizing it.
She becomes aware of this when she looks at photos of the marathon. At first glance, these do not seem unusual. But on closer inspection, Borleis recognizes a mysterious figure on it.
Sportswoman pondering paranormal apparition
Although the alleged encounter was almost five years ago, Borleis is still puzzling. "To this day, we still don't know what it was," she recently told the New York Post. However, she is convinced that it must be a paranormal apparition.
According to her, it could not be another runner because everyone was running clockwise and no one had overtaken them. "And tourists don't leave that early. We didn't see anyone for hours while running. So we were – and still are – sure that there was no one there." She also feels confirmed in her suspicion because the marathon took place during a lunar eclipse. These are often associated with paranormal and mysterious sightings.
Eerie figure in the bushes: Is it a "night marcher"?
After the discovery, Borleis began to look for a possible reason. In the process, she came across a local legend that says that the spirits of deceased Hawaiian warriors, so-called "night marchers", haunt the region. As a result, people who look the marchers in the eye are likely to suffer a gruesome death. "Fortunately, we didn't see the alleged night marcher," says Borleis.
After the discovery, the athlete shared the photo on the Reddit platform and in a blog post. However, she received strong reactions and was eventually forced to archive the posts: "We received messages accusing us of not respecting Hawaiian culture."

This even went so far that people sent Borleis death threats. In the USA, another creepy figure shook people in December: The so-called Gingerbread Man made neighborhoods unsafe there. An old find has also been reported on the Baltic Sea coast, where the storm surge of 2023 left more than just damage. (jus)
