Highlights: The project involves the placement of 90 floating wind turbines off the coast of Lecce, Italy. The total cost of the project is estimated at more than €4 billion. The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year, with the aim of creating 1,500 new jobs. The company behind the project, BlueFloat Energy, says it is committed to making the project a success. It is the first project of its kind in Italy, and the first in the world, to build a floating wind farm.

The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) procedure has been launched for Odra, the floating offshore wind farm that the partnership between Renantis and BlueFloat Energy intends to build off the southern coast of the province of Lecce. After more than a year of studies and research, the environmental impact study was submitted to the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MoEES) and the Ministry of Culture (MiC).
The project involves the placement of 90 floating wind turbines for a maximum installed capacity of over 1300 megawatts and an expected production of about 4 billion kWh/year, equivalent to the consumption of over 1 million Italian households, avoiding the emission into the atmosphere of more than 2 million tons of carbon dioxide per year.
The total investment for the construction and development of Odra is estimated at more than €4 billion.
On the employment front, it is estimated that there will be an average of 1,500 direct jobs for the production, assembly and construction phases of the wind farm, with peaks of up to 4,000 during peak periods of activity and more than 150 permanent jobs, estimated for the entire operation of the wind farm, i.e. thirty years.
Ksenia Balanda, general manager of Renantis-BlueFloatEnergy partnership for Italy, speaks of a "project that is optimal from a technical point of view, environmentally sustainable and a strong contribution to the growth of the local economy. To achieve the goal of first energy production by the end of the decade, we will continue to refine all aspects related to the construction and operation of our wind farm, ensuring the best possible solutions as of now."
