Winter has Bavaria firmly in its grip: After a cold weekend, there is now a snowy start to the third calendar week.

Munich – The past weekend in Bavaria trumped with wintry cold. However, it remained dry over a wide area, but the snow that had already fallen remained even in the big cities. At the start of the week on Monday, 15 January, there should now be more supplies - this is how the German Weather Service (DWD) and meteorologist Dominik Jung from wetternet forecast plenty of fresh snow for the Free State.

Winter weeks in Bavaria: Up to ten centimetres of fresh snow announced

According to the current warning situation report of the DWD, "snowfall spreading over the course of the day" is to be expected on Monday. Depending on the region, however, it will snow to varying degrees. The meteorologists write in their report: "Until Tuesday night, up to three centimeters of fresh snow in some areas, around five centimeters in the Alps and low mountain ranges, and around ten centimeters in accumulations."

wetternet expert Jung also announces that the weather will be quite turbulent this week - because the transitions from snow to freezing rain are fluid. This is mainly due to the regionally differing snow line. At the moment, however, it looks as if there could be snow in Bavaria as early as Monday – as the DWD also announces. In Munich, the temperatures are around three degrees, in the north around Nuremberg around zero degrees. "A real weather chaos," Dominik Jung sums up the upcoming weather situation to our editorial team.

Ice, slippery roads, snow drifts – and even "short thunderstorms": Turbulent weather in Bavaria in winter

On Tuesday, 16 January, it will remain mostly cloudy in Bavaria, but much snowfall is not likely if Dominik Jung's weather map is anything to go by. On the other hand, it is supposed to snow again on Wednesday, January 17th. However, this can also come down as rain over a wide area - after all, temperatures are expected to climb to between five and ten degrees throughout the Free State.

At least for the start of the week, however, the German Weather Service still warns of the consequences of the snow and cold. According to the DWD warning map, a frost and slippery warning is still in effect for the whole of Bavaria until 18 p.m. on Monday. "There is a risk of slippery roads" and "Light frost around -1 °C occurs," it says quite matter-of-factly. In addition, "isolated short thunderstorms" cannot be ruled out in the second half of the day. (FHZ)
