How far can indecency go? This is the question that many British media seem to be asking themselves following the discovery of a funny ad on Airbnb. On the platform, a London landlord offers to rent tents set up in his living room for the modest sum of £68 (approx. €79) per night: "You will not forget your stay in this romantic and memorable place," he writes on his listing. This strange accommodation is located in the centre of London, between the districts of Mayfair and Covent Garden, although the exact location is not known (because for that you have to book).
And who says (in)comfort, also says sharing this space with other people. As shown in the listing photos, three tents are available in the living room. Guests can also access the kitchen, a dedicated workspace and a shared bathroom. The cost of these tents may vary depending on the date. The price for some nights can go as low as £38 (€44), or £1140 (approx. €1326) for a one-month stay. A rate that some might consider "affordable", while the average rent price in London stood at £2501 (€2910) in April 2023.

Hygiene issues
And the prospect of living in a tent, in the middle of a living room, did not seem to discourage some brave people. The property even has an average rating of 4.45 stars on Airbnb, with a few praising the apartment's location and the host's responsiveness. Still, the spartan conditions disappointed many others who may have had disagreements with their tent neighbors, but also face major hygiene problems, with a regularly dirty bathroom. "For 1 or 2 nights we recommend it because it's pretty good, but no more," reads one of the reviews. Still, the experiment should continue to tempt some followers, as housing prices in London have reached unprecedented heights. Even if for holidaymakers there is still the hotel.
