The Western Pomeranian CDU member of the Bundestag Philipp Amthor has warned against premature personnel discussions after CDU state leader Franz-Robert Liskow renounced a top candidacy in the 2026 state election. "We can search in the party committees in an orderly and considered manner for our best line-up for a team for the upcoming elections for the Bundestag and for the state parliament," Amthor told the German Press Agency on Tuesday.

Schwerin/Berlin - "I would like to express my sincere personal thanks to Franz-Robert Liskow for the outstanding work he has done for our CDU state association in recent years."

Liskow had previously stated that he would not run as a top candidate in the 2026 state election in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. He gave private reasons for his decision, "not political". At the end of December, Amthor had declared that he saw his place in Berlin rather than in Schwerin. Dpa
