On Wednesday, a warning from the weather service is in effect: flash ice and slippery roads threaten. The emergency services are on permanent standby.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen – Drivers should be careful: The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued an official severe weather warning. This Wednesday, there is a threat of black ice and flash ice on the roads in the district - from early in the morning until well into the afternoon.

Black ice on the roads: This is how the district prepares itself - fire brigade "always ready for action"

"Our comrades are always ready for action," says the spokesman for the district fire brigades, Stefan Kießkalt. If severe weather warnings are issued, the emergency services are aware of this very early. "We keep an eye on the reporting services and are aware of various weather events." In the process, some firefighters catch themselves thinking: "You can come to the conclusion that the inhibition threshold for warnings is sometimes quite low." Either way, Kießkalt states: "The fire brigades are prepared."

Severe weather warning for the district: Black ice on the roads a danger

To ensure that the possible accidents on icy roads are kept within limits, the employees of the Wolfratshausen building yard drive through the city with the gritting vehicle from 3.30 a.m. onwards. "We are spreading the entire city area preventively," announces building yard manager Matthias Schmidberger. With 13 men, the building yard wants to get the black ice under control – "if necessary, a few employees are on standby". They would have to help manually, because "the machines are all outside".

Federal and state roads are gritted preventively - "so that it can't freeze in the first place"

The State Building Authority in Weilheim is prepared. "We know that there can be flash ice and slippery roads at the moment, and that's a challenge," admits Martin Dondl. The plan of the authority, which is responsible for federal and state roads: "About 30 to 60 minutes before the rain starts, we sprinkle preventively so that it cannot freeze in the first place." The road maintenance departments use a brine mixture. Companies with which the authority works "are also alarmed". The development is closely monitored by the experts in the building authority, via alarm systems and measurements of soil temperatures.

School cancelled in many districts

In various districts north of Munich, school will be cancelled on Wednesday in view of the weather conditions. Not so in the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen. "According to the current status, face-to-face teaching will take place," says Sabine Schmid, press spokeswoman at the district office. This was decided after consultation between the State Education Office and the Civil Protection. If students do not make it to school because of the road conditions, they would have to be excused by the parents.
