What to wear when you become the Queen of Denmark? This question was not to be envied by Crown Princess Mary, but she solved it in a historically elegant and humanly surprising way.
Copenhagen – The moment of the coronation in Denmark will go down in history. Even as Crown Princess Mary (51), Queen Mary had to decide what she wanted to wear to Frederik's (55) coronation on January 14. Not an easy task, because the dress has to meet many requirements and still carry Mary's personal touch. Already in the motorcade to Christiansborg Palace, something radiantly bright flashed through behind the windows in the car of the heir to the throne.

Shortly after 14 p.m., Mary was crowned the new Queen Consort of Denmark by virtue of the signature of her husband Frederik. After the proclamation of the new king on the balcony of Christiansborg Palace, the moment of truth had finally come and Queen Mary entered the balcony in front of which about 100,000 people were impatiently waiting for her.
A surprised murmur from thousands of throats paid tribute to the Australian-born actress as Marys, in her snow-white gown with a train, stepped up to Frederik, struggling with tears of emotion, who was happily looking forward to his elegant wife. The choice fell on the Danish designer Soeren Le Schmidt, who modestly described himself on Instagram as "extremely grateful" that he was allowed to design the historic dress: "Thank you for choosing me," he wrote.

For the coronation of Charles III (75) on May 6, 2023, the mother of four had also placed her trust in the fashion designer and had chosen a design by him. The choice of colour was much more surprising. Because snow white is often worn at weddings, subject to reservations. And the parallel may not have been entirely unintentional.

In fact, the balcony scene was also reminiscent of a wedding, especially since the royal couple kissed overjoyed. But first and foremost, white is an element of the Danish flag. Colour psychology has even more to say: the clay symbolises integrity and morality and appears self-confident. Perhaps the couple actually wanted to dispel the shadows of Frederik's alleged affair shortly before Queen Margrethe's (83) resignation, but first and foremost Queen Mary was simply a feast for the eyes on the day of the coronation.
