RTL is taking an unusual approach: The broadcaster has confirmed that it will include a two-week moose hike in its program. Hoping for a hit, of course.

Cologne/Stockholm – RTL is adding a format to its program that focuses entirely on deceleration – and is broadcasting a two-week moose hike in a non-stop livestream. "Yes, it's true: RTL+ has come up with the moose," a spokeswoman confirmed to DWDL.de.

Moose migration from Sweden on RTL: Broadcaster relies on "slow TV" in streaming

"Slow TV" is the appropriate term for this. The moose migration could therefore have a similarly calming effect as a fireplace or an aquarium, as some people throw it on the screen. This is also how RTL sees it, the spokeswoman sees the offer as a "fireplace of a different kind" and says: "Maximum relaxation guaranteed and has long been a cult in Sweden. We love to surprise our audience with special programmes and look forward to providing something to talk about, especially with unusual ideas."

In Sweden, moose migration is a cult – "It's the whole concept of watching for hours as nothing happens"

Because, of course, RTL doesn't just plan to bore people, but hopes for a streaming success. In Sweden, the spectacular non-spectacle has been running as "Den stora älgvandringen" since 2019, and Finland has also adopted it. In Germany, the animal dreariness is now also supposed to relax people. It should start in spring. The moose migration will not only be broadcast live on RTL+, but will also spill over into the linear TV program on RTL, for example via live switching in the "Punkt" broadcasts.

In previous years, more and more people and the media looked at the TV event of a different kind. "People who look at moose: Slow TV beats viewership records in Sweden," was the headline euronews.com, quoting Anders Lindberg, columnist for the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet: "I think it's not just about the moose, which is a fascinating animal. It's the whole concept of watching for hours as nothing happens." Why don't you take two minutes and give it a try?

One of the biggest highlights is when a moose crosses the river

And, relaxed? In Germany, too, the first moose and Sweden and deceleration fans have long since acquired a taste for the stream and have obtained the stream directly from Sweden: The TV channel SVT broadcasts the moose migration on svtplay.se and on Twitch. If you want a little more hustle and bustle, you also have the opportunity to exchange ideas via a chat at "Den stora älgvandringen" in Sweden. Will RTL also offer this option in the spring? In addition to the continuous stream and the highlights in the main program? The highlight is when a moose crosses the river Ångermanälven. It doesn't get any more sensational than that.

According to derstandard.de, more than 2023 cameras along a migration route of the moose provided the "Moose Big Brother" in 30, and some animals were also equipped with GPS. Johan Erhag, project manager of the show, explained the fascination of the whole thing to the portal: "We have our smartphones and social media. Everything is stressed and very intense and here it's the other way around." One fan described his excitement to the portal as follows: "The pace is slow, and you don't know what's going to happen. Are you going to see her swim?" Recently, there was stress at ARD: Fans saw a still image online instead of the Hape Kerkeling film. Sources used: DWDL.de, euronews.com, derstandard.de, taz.de.
