Together with her father and seven-year-old brother, the girl traveled 274 km to get there. It reached an altitude of 5,364 meters.

David said: "There were no problems during the walk, the acclimatisation was above average, little Zara, thanks to her very good physical condition, even outperformed, with a few exceptions, hundreds of other hikers.

Feat or irresponsibility?

Šifra stressed that Zara's unusual upbringing in Malaysia has helped her train to thrive on the challenging hike and ultimately allowed her to break the world record.

But no matter the age of the climber, the trek even to Everest base camp is incredibly taxing on the body and can cause severe altitude sickness, and even death.

Symptoms usually develop between six and 24 hours after reaching an altitude more than 3,000 meters above sea level.

Mount Everest far exceeds that altitude, with an extraordinary height of 8,848 meters.
