For a long time nothing happened with the arms deliveries to Ukraine.

But suddenly Germany, Great Britain and France are literally outdoing each other.

Kiev - The fact that American Patriot anti-aircraft systems can even stop Vladimir Putin's Kinschal hypersonic missile shows how important Western arms supplies are for Ukraine.

Ukraine war: Kiev receives new weapons from Germany, Great Britain and France

But aid from the USA is currently stalling enormously because Donald Trump's Republicans have been blocking a planned $61 billion military package from the Biden administration in Congress for weeks.

After little happened in Europe around the turn of the year, there is now good news to report for Kiev.

Because: Since mid-January, Germany, Great Britain and France have been outdoing each other with newly announced weapons packages for the Ukrainian armed forces.

Paris in particular is making advance payments and has announced the delivery of heavy weapons that have proven useful for the Ukrainians in defending their homeland against the attack by Russia, which violates international law.

Weapons for Ukraine: Germany supplies Leopard 1 ammunition and armored vehicles

Germany:

After Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) promised military aid worth 1.3 billion euros in November 2023 - including for air defense - Berlin has now put together a concrete weapons package.

As the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense announced on X (formerly Twitter), this time Germany is providing, among other things, ammunition for 30 Leopard 1A5 main battle tanks that have already been delivered.

The core of the delivery are 16 Zetros tank trucks from the Swabian automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz.

There are also 25 RQ-35 Heidrun reconnaissance drones and eight additional Armored Personnel Carriers (APC), after 16 of which had already been delivered.

This is probably about the 'FFG Armored Personnel Carrier (FFG APC)' from the Flensburg arms company FFG.

As it became known in the summer of 2023, a total of 66 of these vehicles are to be handed over to the Ukrainian army.

Weapons for Ukraine: Great Britain releases billions - There are many signs of Storm Shadow

Great Britain:

On January 12th, London announced another military package worth 2.5 billion pounds (around 2.916 billion euros).

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said: “Our support must not and will not weaken.

To all Ukrainians: Britain stands with you for as long as it is needed.” The UK Ministry of Defense then shared a video showing all the weapons deliveries so far - from the Challenger 2 main battle tank to the Storm Shadow cruise missile.

One indication that it may be about the Storm Shadow again is the modification of the cruise missile for the Ukrainian front-line bomber Su-24M.

This was recently announced by the arms manufacturer MBDA.

With the Storm Shadow, the Ukrainian air force inflicted heavy losses, especially on Moscow's Black Sea fleet, Putin and his troops on the occupied Crimean peninsula.

2.5 billion is a lot, as British aid would still amount to around 4.6 billion pounds by the end of 2023 - in almost two years.

Weapons for Ukraine: France sends Scalp-EG cruise missiles and Caesar howitzers

France

is supplying another 40 Scalp-EG cruise missiles, which are technically identical to the Storm Shadow.

Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu also reiterated in an interview with Le Parisien

published on Wednesday (January 17)

that French defense manufacturers have accelerated their production for Ukraine.

For some weapon systems, production time has been reduced by half.

“From now on, the solution is to directly connect the French defense industry with the Ukrainian army,” Lecornu said.

The weapons manufacturer Nexter will produce a total of 78 Caesar truck howitzers this year.

The Ukrainian army praised the Caesar for its high mobility because the crew can fire quickly and then promptly change their firing position.

According to Lecornu, Kiev is paying for six of the howitzers itself. France will also help finance further Caesar deliveries, it was said from Paris.

He left it open to what extent.

Instead, Lecornu emphasized that France will supply Ukraine with 3,000 artillery shells in 155 mm caliber per month from the end of January - instead of the previous 1,000 per month.
