2024-01-19T07:06:28.614Z

Highlights: The city of Bordeaux intends to set up an anti-incivility brigade in 2024. The brigade will be responsible for combating offenses linked to cleanliness, illegal dumping, noise and compliance with the rules on the terraces. The mayor also specifies that the city will continue to recruit ten new police officers per year and strengthen its video surveillance system, which now includes more than 200 cameras. In 2018, such a brigade was already set up at night by the previous municipality, as well as a “ green brigade ” in 2015.

This specific brigade, which should see the light of day in 2024, will intervene to reinforce the police force, to specifically combat illegal dumping, noise pollution and enforce the rules around the terraces.

Do not let illegal dumping go unpunished.

This is one of the missions of the future anti-incivility brigade, which the city of Bordeaux intends to set up in 2024. During his greetings to the press on Thursday, Pierre Hurmic, the environmentalist mayor of Bordeaux, announced the creation of this brigade, which will be responsible in particular for combating “

offenses linked to cleanliness, illegal dumping, noise and compliance with the rules on the terraces

”.

This project will be presented to the union organizations within a few weeks, specifies Marc Etcheverry, municipal councilor responsible for the management of the terraces.

The brigade will initially include “

around ten municipal police officers

”, explains the elected official, before integrating members of the cleanliness and waste service.

These sworn agents will be able to “

draw up fines and reports

” and will be “

supported by the team of the urban supervision center

”, which manages the network of video surveillance cameras, in order to be able to do “

flagrant work on the ground

” .

More than 200 surveillance cameras

I gave very clear instructions so that cleanliness was at the heart of this new brigade

,” explains Pierre Hurmic.

For him, “

this brigade will be a valuable reinforcement for all the agents who work on a daily basis to resolve these problems

”.

She will remind us “

that living in our city requires a minimum of civic-mindedness

”.

The mayor also specifies that the city will continue to recruit ten new police officers per year and strengthen its video surveillance system, which now includes more than 200 cameras.

The idea is not new, however.

In 2018, such a brigade was already set up at night by the previous municipality, as well as a “

green brigade

” in 2015. Other metropolitan municipalities have also deployed anti-incivility brigades, such as Talence, neighboring Bordeaux , which adopted it in 2020. In this municipality, the majority of interventions concern illegal dumping, which has decreased by 20% in less than a year.
