European MP Angelika Niebler (CSU) promotes participation in the European elections at the CSU Moosinning's New Year's reception.

However, there was little interest from citizens at the reception.

Moosinning - Visitors to the New Year's reception of the Moosinning-Eichenried CSU local branch were given an insight into the political work in Strasbourg and Brussels.

European MP Angelika Niebler accepted the invitation and provided the Oberwirt with a look back and a preview at the same time.

Around 35 listeners gathered to take a look at everyday life in the European Parliament with the politician.

An unexpectedly low level of interest, as CSU local councilor Andreas Humplmair lamented: “Basically, regardless of party, we want people to take advantage of such opportunities and engage in exchanges.

That’s what politics thrives on,” he explained afterwards.

The variety of topics that Niebler gave her listeners an insight into remained comprehensive.

“In her speech she spoke openly and honestly about everyday political life in Brussels and Strasbourg.

“About the sometimes well-known topics and how intensive the path to a solution is,” praised Humplmair.

Niebler began with a review of the important topics of the past five years.

These confirmed why it is important “that the CSU continues to play a role” - she was referring to the traffic light government: “Thank God farmers, freight forwarders, restaurateurs are taking to the streets,” she emphasized and regretted that across Europe you are losing more and more credibility and trust if you don't agree on the traffic lights.

Another example is the combustion engine, which was only corrected at the last minute.

“You can’t do politics like that in Europe,” emphasized Niebler.

And when it comes to heating, she is also convinced: “You can’t always use a crowbar.”

One topic that has overshadowed recent times is the war in Ukraine.

Here, too, Germany was once again on the brakes: “You can of course think about it, but we can't always be last.

We lose so much trust in a short time, especially with our neighbors.”

Niebler also addressed the AfD.

“It’s not possible to choose them.

A party that wants to get out of the EU and NATO,” warned Niebler.

In order to be able to make proper politics, you need committed people who are actively involved in solving problems.

You can't count on the AfD here, said Niebler, and appealed to her listeners to convey this to the outside world.

Voting for the AfD should under no circumstances be done out of protest: “Europe is far too important for that.”

Basically, the last five years have been a time in crisis mode.

In the future, Niebler sees the digital world, artificial intelligence and sustainability as being high on the to-do list.

Care must be taken not to overshoot the target.

As an example, Niebler cited the Packaging Waste Ordinance, which she had dealt with intensively.

“We have to move away from the ban euphoria.

We’d rather take small steps and develop towards the goal.”

With a view to the war in Ukraine, there will continue to be major challenges to overcome in the future.

“We have seen that it is naive to think that there will be no more war.” Finally, Niebler made an appeal to those present: A strong, common Europe “is the best thing that can happen to us.

Europe is worth all the effort.

That’s why you’re promoting participation in the European elections.”
