The Gaza war reverberates on several fronts in the Middle East after having caused nearly 25,000 deaths in more than a hundred days of hostilities against the Palestinian Hamas militia.

In the deadliest attack attributed to Israel in Syria since the start of the conflict, at least four members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard lost their lives this Saturday in Damascus.

According to Iranian television, among the fatalities is the head of the intelligence service of the Iranian mission that advises the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The explosion caused by a wave of missiles completely destroyed the four-story building that served as a residence for Iranian military advisors in the Mazzeh district of the Syrian capital, in an area near a former military airport.

In their usual line regarding Syria, spokespersons for the Israeli Armed Forces declined to confirm responsibility for the attack, which bears the hallmarks of retaliatory strikes by the Jewish State.

Israeli aircraft have bombed hundreds of targets in Syria since 2011, when a long and bloody civil war broke out in the Arab country, although only a handful of those actions have been claimed.

Sources from the Syrian security services cited by Reuters pointed to Israel as the author of the launch of “precision missiles” and assured that a fifth person had died in the attack.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an NGO that has informants on the ground, indicated that members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Iran's main allied militia in the Gaza Strip, also lived in the Mazzeh area where the attack occurred.

Iranian television reported that there had been casualties among “Syrian forces,” without providing further details.

Last December, two attacks attributed to Israel in which three members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard were killed in the Damascus metropolitan area.

This Sunday's missile operation occurs after the destruction with Iranian ballistic missiles of the considered "espionage headquarters" of Israel in Erbil, capital of Iraqi Kurdistan, in which four civilians perished, according to the authorities of the Kurdish Regional Government in northern Iraq.

The Revolutionary Guard stated last Tuesday that the target was “one of the main headquarters of the Israeli spy agency Mossad in Iraqi Kurdistan.”

The action was carried out in response to the Israeli bombing that killed Revolutionary Guard commander Razi Mousavi in December when he was in Damascus.

In the Gaza Strip, meanwhile, Israel continues a large-scale offensive in Khan Younis, in the south, and in some parts of Jablia, in the north, despite the fact that the army withdrew from that last area weeks ago.

According to the Gaza Health Ministry, controlled by Hamas, the Palestinian death toll in the Israeli offensive now rises to 24,927.

This Saturday, Israeli aviation dropped leaflets over Rafah (southern Gaza) urging Palestinians displaced by the war to help them find the more than 130 Israeli hostages still held by Palestinian militias, kidnapped in the attacks of last October 7.

On the northern front, at least two people died this Saturday in an Israeli drone attack that targeted a vehicle in southern Lebanon, official sources in Beirut reported, cited by Efe.
