The flooding of the mine occurred during excavation work which caused an influx of water accumulated in a neighboring mine.
Five workers were able to survive but ten had been missing since the day of the accident.
The state of Coahuila supplies almost all of the coal produced by Mexico, most of the time under very precarious safety conditions for miners.
Several accidents have devastated the region, the largest of which took place on February 19, 2006: 65 workers died during an explosion in a coal mine.
Only two bodies had been recovered.
