According to a report that sent waves in the media world, the Vogue editor did not remove her iconic sunglasses during a meeting where she informed several employees about layoffs. A former employee shared with X: 'The most obscene and horrifying thing we've seen from senior management this week'

Alison Hussey, a freelance culture journalist, has written hundreds of articles for Pitchfork, a daily news site dedicated to reviews and music news alongside interviews and other content from the world of music.

But following a decision by Condé Nast, the media company that owns the site, Pitchfork will soon merge with GQ, a men's lifestyle and culture magazine and site.

Accordingly, the Aussie, along with several other reporters and editors at the respected music website, was fired from her job.

But the way the dismissal meeting was conducted, at least the Aussie claimed in a tweet on her X (formerly Twitter) account, was insulting.

"A completely strange detail from this week is that Anna Wintour - who was sitting in the conference room - did not take off her sunglasses when she told us we were fired. The most obscene and appalling thing we have seen from senior management this week."

one absolutely bizarre detail from this week is that Anna Wintour—seated indoors at a conference table—did not remove her sunglasses while she was telling us that we were about to get canned.

the indecency we've seen from upper management this week is appalling.

The tweet has so far received 4,800 likes and over 500 shares, and also led to an article on the same matter in Fox News.

The insensitivity, to put it mildly, that the veteran editor showed, sparked discussions about empathy and management styles in fashion and media corporations, which often have an environment full of pressure.

Anna Wintour has been at the head of the American version of the fashion magazine Vogue since 1988, and is considered a fashion icon herself.

For over 35 years she has been a central figure in shaping the landscape of the fashion press.

Her journey through various prestigious magazines such as New York Magazine, House and Garden and of course Vogue, are a testament to her ambition for excellence in the fashion journalism industry.

She herself is considered a professional and hard worker who does not hesitate to demand from her employees the same dedication that she herself devotes to her work.

The main influence of Wintour is on the human world from time to time 73 is known for its influence on the success of brands.

The 74-year-old, the industry believes, can in the blink of an eye determine the fate of a brand or a collection.

There isn't a fashion week without the indefatigable Mrs. Wintour sitting front row, usually next to the event's main celebrity, which means guests like David Beckham, Madame Macron, the Queen of England, etc.

Her fearsome character with rare human flickers was famously portrayed in the bestseller 'The Devil Wears Prada' and in the 2006 film of the same name, with Meryl Streep in the lead role.

Often perceived as demanding, Wintour's behavior and management style were often the subject of criticism, which further strengthened Wintour's public persona.

The recent layoffs at Condé Nast, part of a broader restructuring involving, as mentioned, the merger of Pitchfork with GQ, sparked not only discussion at X, but also outrage at New York's News Guild.

The union condemned the layoffs, pointing to a broken promise from Conde Nast management that Pitchfork would not face layoffs.

The conduct of the media group, and of Wintour in particular, highlighted the growing tensions between organizational strategies and the journalistic communities within the group.

Wintour's choice to stick with her dark glasses during a layoff meeting was interpreted differently.

While some see it as a mere fashion statement that matches her public image, others see it as a symbolic barrier - a refusal to empathize with the workers who are facing a career-changing moment and at a particularly vulnerable point.

This event raised questions about personal style in professional settings, especially in situations that require sensitivity and human connection.

The layoffs also sparked a broader discussion about the state of the media and the press.

As digital transformation continues to reshape the industry, many traditional publications are struggling to adapt.

Pitchfork's merger with GQ is perhaps a necessary strategic move in an increasingly competitive media landscape.

However, for the workers affected, it is a harsh reminder of the instability of the industry that supports them.
