A BMW driver left the road on the A8 near Hofolding and crashed into a tree.
The police have a guess as to how the accident could have happened.

- The accident occurred on Friday evening on the A8 between the Hofolding and Holzkirchen junctions.
According to a report from the Holzkirchen motorway police, a 53-year-old man from Munich was driving his BMW south on the cleared shoulder at around 5 p.m.
According to witness statements, the BMW suddenly and for no apparent reason drifted to the right and drove into the grass verge.
After about 100 meters, the vehicle hit a tree and overturned.
The BMW remained on its roof at the edge of the forest.
High property and land damage
Fortunately, the Munich resident only sustained minor injuries in the accident and was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
His BMW was totaled.
There was considerable damage to the land and the damaged tree had to be felled.
According to police estimates, the total amount of damage is around 40,000 euros.
Motorway closed, fire departments on duty
The Hofolding and Sauerlach volunteer fire departments were on duty, securing the accident site together with the highway maintenance department.
The highway was temporarily closed because a rescue helicopter had to land.
This resulted in a significant backlog.
Was the driver asleep?
Based on witness statements, it is suspected that the driver of the BMW fell asleep while driving.
The man is now facing criminal charges for endangering road traffic.
